A stairlift for your mother or father, arranged from wherever you are

When the stairs start to get hard

You may have noticed it on your last visit, or heard it on the phone.

  • Your father holds the railing with both hands and stops halfway to rest.
  • Your mother goes upstairs only once a day, or not at all.
  • A bed has moved downstairs, and the upstairs rooms are now mostly closed.
  • After a knee or hip operation, the stairs are the one thing they avoid.
  • You worry a little each time they go up or down alone.

None of this means your parents can no longer live at home. It means the stairs have become hard work. Many families reach this point. There is a simple answer.

How a stairlift helps your parent stay in their own home

A stairlift is a chair on a track fixed to the steps. Your parent sits, presses a button, and it carries them up or down. It is also called a chair lift for stairs, a lift for stairs or a staircase lift chair.

With a stairlift, your parents keep their own bedroom, the terrace and the puja room. They keep the whole house they built. They don’t have to move, and they don’t have to wait for someone to help them up.

There are stairlifts for straight stairs, for stairs with turns, and for wheelchair users:

  • Straight stairs, no turn: a straight stairlift, installed in a single visit. From about ₹2.15 lakh + GST (indicative).
  • Stairs with a turn or a landing: a curved stairlift. The track is made for your staircase. About ₹5–10 lakh + GST (indicative).
  • Your parent uses a wheelchair: a wheelchair platform stairlift. They ride on a platform in their wheelchair. About ₹8–15 lakh + GST (indicative).

These prices are indicative. Your exact price depends on your stairs and your site, and is confirmed in a written quotation after a free survey at your home. Our prices include delivery to your home, installation, and showing your family how to use it.

The home survey is free, and there is no obligation to buy. You get the price in writing before you decide. We don’t push — take your time and talk it over as a family.

Arranging it from another city, or from abroad

You don’t need to fly home to arrange it. You can arrange everything on WhatsApp and on the phone. You can join the home survey on a video call, and we send the written quotation to you on WhatsApp or email, so you and your parents decide together.

  1. Send a photo of the stairs. Ask your parents, or a neighbour, to take a photo. Send it to us on WhatsApp, or call. We suggest the type of stairlift and an indicative price.
  2. We visit your parents for the free home survey. We agree the time with you. We look at the stairs and talk with your parent.
  3. You get the written quotation. It shows the exact price. Take your time and talk it over as a family.
  4. We install it and show everyone how to use it. A straight stairlift is installed in a single visit. For stairs with turns, the track is made for your staircase; the installation date is in the quotation. Then we show your parent, and whoever lives with them, how to use it.
  5. We stay a phone call away. If the stairlift needs a service, you or your parents call us, and we arrange the visit. The warranty is set out in your quotation. After that, call our service number +91 99206 98658 and we arrange the visit.

Safety, in plain words

You want to know your parent is safe when you are not there.

Every seated stairlift we offer has a seat belt, and a seat that turns at the top so your parent steps off away from the stairs.

When we install the stairlift, we show your parent, and whoever lives with them, exactly how to use it safely. If anyone has a question later, we are a call away.

Each stairlift is made to carry a set weight. For example, the Elan straight stairlift carries up to 136 kg. The Eliva, for stairs with turns, carries up to 125 kg, or 160 kg with an option. Tell us your parent’s weight, and we suggest the right stairlift.

In a power cut: every seated stairlift works in a power cut. It runs on batteries that charge from a normal plug point. The wheelchair platform stairlift works in a power cut too.

If your parent says “I don’t need it”

Many parents say no at first. They may feel a stairlift means they are old, or a burden. Or they worry about the cost, or about spoiling the house. These are fair feelings. Some things that help:

  • Talk about what they get back. The terrace, their own room, sleeping upstairs again. Not about age.
  • Let them decide. Ask what they find hard, and listen. Don’t arrange it behind their back.
  • Let them see one. Bring your parent to our Experience Center in Wagle Estate, Thane. Visits are by appointment. Visits are by appointment; book on WhatsApp.
  • Let them meet us. At the free home survey, your parent can ask us anything.
  • It is not forever. The track is fixed to the steps with small screws, not to the wall, and it can be removed later.

Questions sons and daughters ask

I live abroad. Can I arrange everything from there?

Does someone need to be at home?

Yes. Your parent, or someone you trust, needs to be at home for the survey and the installation.

How much does a stairlift cost in India?

A straight stairlift starts from about ₹2.15 lakh + GST (indicative). Stairs with turns cost about ₹5–10 lakh + GST (indicative). A wheelchair platform stairlift costs about ₹8–15 lakh + GST (indicative). These prices are indicative. Your exact price depends on your stairs and your site, and is confirmed in a written quotation after a free survey at your home. See stairlift prices in India.

How long does installation take?

A straight stairlift is installed in a single visit. For stairs with turns, the track is made for your staircase. The installation date is in your quotation.

What if there is a power cut?

Every seated stairlift works in a power cut. It runs on batteries that charge from a normal plug point. The wheelchair platform stairlift works in a power cut too.

The track is fixed to the steps, not the wall, so it can be removed later. A few small screw holes are left in the steps. See Stairlifts in flats, societies and rented homes.

Will it damage our marble steps?

The rail is fixed to the steps with small screws, not to the wall, so your walls are untouched. Tell us if your steps are marble, granite or tile — we check them at the free survey and fix the rail carefully. If the stairlift is ever taken out, a few small screw holes are left in the steps.
