Does a stairlift work in a power cut?
Yes. Every seated stairlift works in a power cut. It runs on batteries that charge from a normal plug point. The wheelchair platform stairlift and the platform lift work in a power cut too.
What this means at home
Your parent can still go up and down the stairs when the power goes off. The batteries charge from the plug point, so keep that plug point switched on.
With a stairlift, your parents keep their own bedroom, the terrace and the puja room. A power cut does not take that away.
Which lifts work in a power cut
- A stairlift for straight stairs: yes, on its batteries.

Looking after the batteries
Keep the steps and the rail clear. Keep its plug point switched on, so the batteries stay charged. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth.
If it doesn’t move, check that the plug point is switched on. If anything sounds or feels different, please do not try to oil or adjust it yourself. Switch it off and call our service number +91 99206 98658. This help is only for stairlifts and platform lifts bought from Team Mobility.
